There is no gainsaying that wealth is in the DNA of Christianity. We serve the God who is the owner of the cattle upon a thousand hills. He says in Psalm 50:10,  “For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.”  In Haggai 2: 8, He says, “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine,…”

If you despise wealth therefore as a Christian, then it is because you have not been well informed about the personality of God. Our God is not only a rich God, He teaches and empowers His people to make wealth. Deuteronomy 18: 18 says, “But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.” In this scripture, God empowers His people to get wealth as a sign that He is committed to establishing His covenant with us, His people.

In Isaiah 48:17, He declares by Himself, “Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.” This means that as a believer, following God and submitting to His tutelage empowers you not to run at a loss in any of your endeavours.

In this article today, I want to teach you four ways to practically grow in wealth.

  1. Be Informed. To the informed is to be formed from within. You are product of your inner formation. You exhibit the things that are in you. If you must get wealthy, you must be informed. In other words, you must build your capacity to take on life. You must know more and develop the ability to do more.

Another thing I must say about information is that it is the key thing you need to know about a thing or phenomenon. The more you are knowledgeable about wealth, the better your chances of amassing it. You cannot be a good oil trader if you buy and stock palm oil in the off-season. You need to be informed, you need to know when to get it, where to get it from, how to store it and even when to sell it. Information prepares you to be diligent. It empowers you to do what it takes to succeed.

In order to be informed, you need to

  • Read and study relevant literature: There is nothing you want to do today that you cannot get at least an introductory literature on it. There so much information about almost everything today on the internet. In fact, you can learn how to cook, make soap, knot a tie, plant cassava etc. on the internet today. Instead of you spending all day ‘facebooking’ and ‘WhatsApping’, google out some information on any endeavor you are interested in and you will be surprised how much knowledge you would amass.
  • Listen to the relevant authorities: Listen to men of God, listen to teachers, go to workshops and seminars and listen to people who know better. You will learn a lot and would be encouraged to do something worth the while.
  • Observe the ways of those who are successful in that area of endeavor: Many times, experts are not always willing to tell you everything but if you can get close enough to them when they are at their work, you can observe them. Once you have the interest and you watch them do their thing, it will be hard for you to forget what you saw. Observation is the quickest way to learn secrets from experts.
  • Submit actively to mentoring: In every field today, there are people who are succeeding. Humbly seek out the best, closest to you and submit to him willingly. You will learn more by association. The prodigal so joined himself to a citizen of that country and learnt piggery. He left his father as an irresponsible child who knew not how to do anything but he returned as a person who could contribute to the wealth of the house. Being an apprentice is not demeaning, it is the pathway to the top.
  1. Start small: Everything big starts small. Things are meant to grow and not just to appear suddenly out of the blues. If you are insisting on starting big, then you are probably trying to impress someone. If that is the case, you might not succeed. Even if you succeed in starting big, the person you are trying to impress will suspect you of fraud. When you start small, you will gradually learn the tricks and grow big and strong. He that is down needs fear no fall they say. If you start small and loose, you will not feel too bad and you can start again with little effort but if you start big and fail, you may not be able to rise again out of discouragement and fear. Do not be ashamed to start small. Start small and grow big.
  1. Get to work: Work does not kill. Hear the following lines from the mouth of the wise man; “The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat… Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment” (Prove. 13: 4 and 23). Do not let laziness put hunger in your stomach. Rise up and work the work.
  1. Manage your Money: If your wealth must grow, you must manage or control your expenditure. The ants gather food but leave much for later. They practice savings and frugality, always bearing in mind that the future must be provided for. You must prioritize essentials from non-essentials. Proverbs 21” 17 & 20 says “He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich…There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.”

Everything you have read and more not written here for time and space is God teaching you to profit. Like Joshua, God is telling you now to meditate on these words “day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
