It has become popular at the end of every service to recite ‘The Grace’. We will all usually chorus, “May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God and the (Sweet) Fellowship of the Holy Spirit Be with us all ….” Most believers are not actually aware of what this means. They think it’s just a closing remark; something we recite to show that the service has ended and we all can now go home to eat rice and stew with meat. It is deeper than that.

I just want to dwell today on the Grace or our Lord Jesus Christ. What is grace? Grace is divine favour in action. It is in summary, help from above! Grace connotes what God alone can do beyond human effort. 2Corinthians 8: 9 says clearly, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.”

Now you must know that this grace we are talking about has to do with Jesus taking our place and giving us His place. It has to do with our substitutionary gift. He so valued us that He decided to let go of His greatness so He can let us have it forever. This substitutionary Grace is the manifestation of the highest expression of God’s love toward us. Romans 5: 8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” He gave up so we might have and so, it is required that we must live in consciousness of what we have been given and make up our minds to keep it.

This substitutionary grace has given us a lot of benefits, some of which are,

  1. Peace with God: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Ro 5:1 )
  2. Salvation: “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Heb 5: 9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” (Eph. 2: 8)
  3. Victory over death: “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;” (Hebrews 2: 14)
  4. Prosperity: “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich”
  5. Divine Healing and Health: “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53: 5)

As a child of God, you need to know that if you are yet living short of these and even more, then you are being cheated by your adversary the devil. And the devil is succeeding because of your ignorance and your indulgence in sin. It is time for you to rise up to take your place. You will in Jesus name.

In Genesis 22, the ram became a substitute for Isaac. It was the Ram that died, not Isaac. It was the ram that was sacrificed, not Isaac.

In substitution, all that is required is for one party to die or give up something in the name of or for the sake of another. Jesus has died for you so you are no longer to die physically before your time and you are no longer to perish in the fires of hell after you translate into eternity and all it takes is to believe and confess Him as your Lord and savior.

Jesus has already borne your sins, sicknesses, diseases, pains, afflictions, poverty and so on. The devil is succeeding in putting these things including fear on you because of your ignorance and inability to lay hold unto what God has given you.

Somebody said, if Jesus really died for me to live, didn’t he take His life back when He rose again? NO!

All that is required in substitution is that He dies your death and bear your shame and reproach and so on. He did die and that meets the requirement so you are a valid beneficiary of what He suffered and died for you to have.

His resurrection is a double victory over the devil. In other words, the devil can’t have you again and the devil also cannot keep Him dead. The devil saw this coming and that was why he sent the elders of the Jews to find a way of keeping Him from rising from the dead by sealing the tomb and doing all to falsify His resurrection testimony. The only loser at the end of it all is satan. Halleluiah.

Beloved, it’s time to enjoy what God has given you. You have to believe it and hold it by faith. I adjure you therefore to rise up from that your situation and start confessing the relevant word of God over your life. Can you start saying something like: “If he died that I might live, and He did, I choose to live. Satan, I refuse to die, I refuse to be sick; my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit so no sickness can dwell in my body……” I see you enjoying grace in Jesus name.

As I round up, I would like you to know that this grace is not cheap and it requires a response from you. Since God has counted you favored for this grace, He also requires you to live for Jesus. We cannot continue in sin and expect grace to abound. You ought also to live His life. God requires you to allow the Holy Spirit to bear His fruit in you- love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance. You have the responsibility to be kingdom minded and kingdom focused. God bless you in Jesus name.
