newGod’s clear cut plan this year is to make you have a new experience in your life and ministry and so He welcomed us into this new year with a promise in Ezekiel 34: 26- 27 that He “will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come down in his season; there shall be showers of blessing. And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.”

No doubt, many are just happy that they made it into a new year. Many are doubtful about how the year will turn out but for you and me, we must be better than that. This is because we have a promise, made by one who cannot change or lie. God’s intention is to present the world with a new you this year and it is my honest prayer that God will succeed in His plan in and for your life in Jesus name. All you need to make it work, is to give God free space to work His work in your life by believing that a new you is possible and that something good and better can emerge out of this Nazareth called you.

Peter was first introduced to Jesus by Andrew his brother in John 1: 40- 42. It however seems to me that Peter, on meeting with Jesus didn’t feel up to it. He couldn’t figure out how a man, a sinner like him could become a follower of Jesus. I think that he went back to his business and he was at that until Jesus came to him again in Luke 5 and made him experience the power of God by blessing him with a catch that was beyond what he expected. His response was that “…he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord” but Jesus told him “Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”  Jesus gave him a new vision. A new hope. A new life and from that day, he followed.

He saw that Jesus was not as concerned about his sins as He was about his rising above them. He saw that Jesus was not as concerned about his past as He was about his future. That was the day Peter started his consistent followership of Jesus into destiny and after Jesus had departed, in Acts 4:13, people“… saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” Peter became a celebrity, a man to watch out for and a force to reckon with because he dared to believe that Jesus could and would indeed make a fisher of men out of a fisherman.

It is perhaps true that the church or churches you are overseeing have ‘refused to grow.’ It might be obvious that your life is not ‘moving forward at all.’ The poor in the land may even be referring to you as a poor man and the sinners in the land call you a sinner. You may be the dullest in class and it may be presently true that nothing grows but dies in your hand and you are so empty of what you could do to turn things around in your life, ministry and family. The good news is that, ‘all that is in the past now’ because the word of God cannot be broken. As far as God is concerned, there shall be showers of blessing for you in Jesus name.

I see a new you. A new you full of ideas. A new you full of smiles. A new you full of success in life and ministry. A new you doing things no one ever thought was possible. A new you singing a new song and sharing a new testimony.

It begins by believing that it is possible. You must begin to think it. You must make the thoughts of a new you, your constant meditation. It must become a reality in your mind. You see, to think of a new you is better and more joy invoking than to think of the current you which fills you with sadness, grief and even thoughts of despair. I would rather think on good than to think of bad.

It begins by believing and thinking that a new you is possible, yes! But with God alone. Peter wanted a better life but was sure it won’t be possible and the facts of that all night fishing that resulted in NOTHING, not even a splinter of wood in the net affirmed that, but by acting on the word of Jesus alone, what was impossible became a living and present reality. Your faith in what God has said to us from Ezekiel 34: 26- 27 will trigger off the unfolding of the new you.

The next thing is to do the word. Ezekiel 34: 26- 27 talks about the tree being fruitful and the ground yielding her increase. Do you have a tree or ground? Do you have a business, a skill that God can bless? If you have a business, are you doing the business or is it just what you say? Get to DO so that God can BLESS. Start somewhere. If your dream business is to sell bags of rice, you can start with selling Indomie noodles. If your dream business is to sell crates of soft drinks, you can start with selling ‘Kunu’ and ‘Zobo.’ If your dream is to pastor a Mega church, then do pastor the twenty-member congregation you have faithfully as you also evangelize, visit and invite others to be a part of the work. Commit yourself to something, no matter how little and God will commit to growing it. Start it and water it and God will give it the increase.

I believe in you. I believe that the new you is an emerging reality but I, even God needs you to believe it too. Do not mind the past. Do not give an ear to what others are saying. Just hear God and flow with God and in a short while from now, those who are laughing at you will surely laugh with you and those who are looking down on you will also start looking up to you in Jesus name. Why? Because the new you has come.
